E-motorcycle contract signing witnessed by Marcos in the Philippines

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. was present when Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. of the Ayala Group and California-based Zero Motorcycles signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on a strategic manufacturing partnership for electric motorcycles on Monday (Washington, D.C. time).

According to a press statement from the Presidential Communications Office, the cooperation agreement would help the Philippines grow its electric car ecosystem in the amount of USD65 million.

The first electronic vehicle (EV) motorbike production facility in the Philippines will be established under the direction of a US-based business.

IMI will work with Zero’s California manufacturing facilities to manufacture its electric motorbike models and another assembly at its site in Laguna.

200 personnel will be needed for the IMI-Zero assembly line, which will produce, package, and transport 18,000 electric vehicles annually.

In the meeting, Zero stated that the Philippines is a “clear choice” for its operations as the company seeks to expand its manufacturing operations globally while meeting US demand for sub-assemblies in Europe, Asia, and other markets.

“For us, the Philippines [is] the ideal partner as we grow our manufacturing,” We can establish a global manufacturing base here, according to a Zero spokesperson.

IMI claimed to be in a unique position to house the expertise of bike assembly and electronics manufacture under one roof.

In 2024, AC Industrials will start selling Zero’s electric motorcycles.

Speaker Martin Romualdez, Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual, Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla, Special Assistant to the President Secretary Antonio Lagdameo Jr., Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil, and Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez all participated in the business meeting with the president.

Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, the chairman of Ayala Corporation, and Dave Corry, the regional manager for automotive and industry, were also present at the IMI meeting. Sam Paschel, the CEO of Zero Motorcycles, and Alex Acket, the chief operating officer, represented Zero Motorcycles. (
