‘First of its type’ presidential trade delegation to the Philippines to be sent by Biden

US President Joe Biden will dispatch a “first of its kind” presidential trade and investment mission to the Philippines on Monday (Washington, D.C. time) to encourage broad-based economic growth.

After their private meeting in Washington, D.C., Biden announced this initiative.

The mission is anticipated to increase US business investment in the Philippine sustainable energy transition, key minerals industry, and innovation economy. The best US business leaders would be present as well.

In his speech, Biden emphasized the “strong partnership” and “deep friendship” between the US and the Philippines, which had been “enriched by millions of Filipino-Americans and the communities all across the United States.”

Additionally, Biden pledged to increase American assistance in several areas, such as the economy and the fight against climate change.

“We’re addressing climate change, increasing our nations’ chances,” and we are defending the rights of workers and our shared democratic values. Biden told Marcos, “We’re strengthening our economic cooperation.

The two leaders have decided to work even closer together to combat climate change, increase sustainable energy production, and preserve the environment.

In a joint statement, Marcos and Biden specifically underlined their commitment to taking immediate action to cut greenhouse gas emissions and to increase the production of renewable energy to speed up the transition to clean energy, lower energy costs, and increase family access to electricity.

As he expressed gratitude to Biden for America’s assistance, Marcos aimed to fortify “alliances and partnership in the face of the new economy that we are facing post-pandemic.”

The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen economic cooperation, advance inclusive prosperity, enhance the two countries’ unique people-to-people ties, support the transition to renewable energy, deal with the climate catastrophe, and uphold human rights during their meeting in the Oval Office on Monday.

The leaders coordinated their efforts to protect international law, advance a free and open Indo-Pacific, and debate regional issues.

In an expanded bilateral meeting at the White House, Marcos and Biden met with representatives of the Philippine Cabinet and their US counterparts.

National Security Advisor Eduardo Ao, Defense Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Antonia Yulo Loyzaga, Trade, and Industry Secretary Alfredo Pascual, Department of Information and Communications Technology Secretary Ivan John Uy, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, Migrant Workers Department Secretary Maria Susana “Toots” Ople, and Foreign Affairs Secretary Alfredo Pascual were among the Philippine officials present at the expanded bilateral meeting.

During his stay in Washington, Marcos also plans to meet with business leaders and Cabinet officials and visit the Pentagon. (
