An India business roadshow will attract investors to Iloilo.

On May 31, the provincial and municipal governments of Iloilo will host the India Business Roadshow in hopes of luring investors.

Nishikant Singh, Embassy of India Counsellor of Economic and Commerce, joined by representatives of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and India Business Forum Philippine Association, Inc. (IBF), paid a courtesy visit to Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. and Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas on Wednesday to inform the officials of the upcoming investment forum.

The IBF is a group made up of nation-specific leaders, CEOs, and officials from Indian businesses established in the Philippines.

In a press conference on Thursday, Defensor stated that in response to their request for business-to-business (B2B) or business-to-government (B2G) sessions with Indian firms, the province is prepared to bring in the business sector.

“They intend to increase their voiceover internet and BPO (business process outsourcing) operations here in Iloilo. They claim that many of their compatriots would like to visit us as tourists, therefore they also want to enhance the amount of cultural interchange between our people, according to Defensor.

In a statement, Treas claimed that the upcoming event proves that the city’s efforts to create a business-friendly environment have already attracted investors who will create more job opportunities throughout Western Visayas, not just in Iloilo City.

“One of the key areas we should concentrate on is Iloilo. And with this India Business Roadshow, we also want Indian businesses to visit Iloilo and see the prospects that are available, Singh said during a media conference on Wednesday.

He said the platform would be a location where Indian enterprises and Filipino businesses could interact and communicate with each other.

“It will be a great chance. This India Business Roadshow is taking place in Iloilo for the first time; as a result, it marks the beginning of a trip that we are bringing, he continued.

The business forum will be the sixth in the Embassy of India’s series of roadshows.

Six initial industries, including information technology and business process management, health care, agriculture (agrochemical and irrigation), automobiles, renewable energy (waste to energy), tourism and services, and the PCCI, have been chosen as the forum’s primary areas of focus.

“Stakeholders in Iloilo and neighboring provinces, if they think they can benefit from it, (they) can come and participate,” Singh added.

According to Defensor, the sectors that were chosen met the province’s development goals to increase agricultural production, establish a value chain, and, as a result, generate jobs and revenue for agricultural tourism.
