Basuki Hadimuljono, the minister of public works and public housing, has expressed confidence that ASEAN will develop as Indonesia, which is hosting the regional organization this year, has predicted.

“The ASEAN Summit is not merely a ceremonial event, but we believe it will create more concrete actions, and ASEAN will be an epicenter of growth,” he said in a statement released on Thursday.

To realize the Indonesian chairmanship’s theme, “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth,” he expected that the ASEAN Summit will proceed without incident until it is over and that all collaboration established between ASEAN member states will have a real-world impact.

Hadimuljono has been appointed to oversee the planning and logistics for the 42nd ASEAN Summit by Presidential Decision No. 5 of 2023 on the 2023 ASEAN Chairmanship National Committee.

The minister expressed his desire for the ASEAN Summit’s various components, including the arrival and departure of ASEAN country leaders and the summit’s security and safety measures, to go without a hitch.

He noted that weather manipulation procedures have also been carried out to prepare for bad weather that might interfere with summit activities.

The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the Transportation Ministry, and the military worked together on May 10 and 11 to conduct weather modification operations because the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicted a risk of rain from the afternoon into the evening.

Hadimuljono greeted Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam when he landed at Labuan Bajo’s Komodo Airport earlier on Wednesday to attend the ASEAN Summit.

On Thursday around noon, the minister was also there when the sultan boarded a plane to return from Labuan Bajo.
