The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) criticized claims that some public transportation providers, particularly motorcycle taxis, were overcharging for services.

Teofilo Guadiz III, the chair of the LTFRB, warned such violations of the public transit system would not be tolerated in a statement on Tuesday.

“The fare matrix was crafted to ensure that the fares charged by all public transport operators from commuters regardless of vehicle type are fair and equitable,” said Guadiz, who also serves as the group leader for the Technical Working Group for Motorcycle Taxis.

The authorized organization with complete authority over MC taxis is the MC-TWG.

Guadiz will request that the technical working group look into the claims.

The announcement coincided with reports of commuters being overcharged for fares.

“We stress that our public transportation system cannot support this practice of overcharging. We won’t permit that, Guadiz continued.
