Under the “Kalikasan” program, 1 million trees were planted in Sorsogon.
As part of its “Kalikasan” program, the provincial government of Sorsogon planted and cared for more than one million trees throughout the province over a year.
Salvador Mendoza, director of the provincial information office in Sorsogon, said in a phone interview on Wednesday that the province has exceeded its goal of planting one million seedlings between May 15, 2022, and May 15, 2023.
As of May 15, 2023, an astonishing 1,001,671 seedlings have been planted, according to Mendoza.
Narra, mahogany, molave, lapnisan, mangroves, bamboo, kakawate, pili, guyabano (soursop), rambutan, cacao, santol (cotton fruit), atis (sugar apple), langka (jackfruit), macopa, calamansi, and kasuy (cashew) were some of the tree species planted in the various cities.
There were 150,763 trees planted in Sorsogon City, 49,027 in Casiguran, 55,233 in Juban, 124,147 in Irosin, 33,778 in Matnog, 52,315 in Magallanes, and 148,677 in Bulan.
According to Mendoza, these local government units (LGUs) actively participated in the program by establishing nurseries in their communities, greatly enhancing the effectiveness of the overall project.
“To ensure the sustainability and long-term effects of the Kalikasan initiative, the province has set a yearly objective of planting one million tree saplings. He said that the Kalikasan program team is now concentrating on watching over and making sure that the trees keep improving and growing.
Governor Edwin Hamor commended everyone who participated in the Kalikasan program for their commitment and support in the statement.
He praised the LGU mayors for their persistent dedication to environmental protection and significant contribution to the program’s success.
According to Hamor, the province of Sorsogon is “demonstrating a shining example of environmental protection and the positive impact that can be achieved through collective efforts” by planting one million tree saplings.
