Zamboanga Peninsula will receive fertilizer assistance from DA.

The Zamboanga Peninsula’s rice farmers will receive fertilizer help from the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Regional Field Office 9.

According to the decision issued on Friday, the DA program shall cover fertilizer assistance under the Production Support Services beginning in the rainy season of 2023 and the dry season of 2023–2024 in rice-producing cities and municipalities in the Zamboanga Peninsula.

Dennis Arpia, the regional executive director of DA, stated over the weekend that “the Rice Program will base the number of bags to be distributed on the submitted liquidation lists from the Office of the City/Municipal Agriculturist to facilitate the necessary preparations.”

Farmers that have received hybrid rice seeds from the DA-9 rice initiative are given priority over all others due to budgetary restrictions.

Farmers who obtained certified rice seeds in irrigated areas and farmers who received certified rice seeds in advantageous rainfed areas come next on the list.

Farmers encoded in the Farmers and Fisherfolk Registry System and registered under the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture are eligible for help.

Farmers who wish to get aid must personally present a valid government ID.

Suppose a farmer-beneficiary cannot personally claim fertilizers due to health problems, disabilities, pregnancy, old age, being confined to a home, employment abroad or in another part of the country, or for any other reason that the director of the National Rice Program may approve. In that case, authorized representatives may do so as long as identification documents for the claimant and the authorized representative are provided.

Suppose they have a properly executed resolution designating the designated representative and the list of member beneficiaries. In that case, farmers’ cooperatives and associations are also permitted to claim the fertilizer of their members.

“The DA acknowledges the significance of fertilizer application to completely enhance a crop’s or plant’s yield potential. The National Rice Program has recently supported the delivery of fertilizer as one of its initiatives to assist farmers in raising farm productivity and income, according to Arpia.
