To safeguard more children against measles, rubella, and polio, health professionals have turned to “house-to-house” immunization, according to information released by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) on Wednesday.

Dr. Ma. Teresita Tan, the acting provincial health officer, stated in an interview that the house visits are in addition to the daily public immunization programs conducted at various health clinics and even basketball courts throughout the province.

The PHO stated that by the time the current round of vaccinations is through, it aims to immunize around 55,000 children, ranging in age from newborns to 5-year-olds.

As of Tuesday, 10,996 kids had received vaccinations across the province as part of the Department of Health’s (DOH) “Chikiting Ligtas 2023” campaign.

The public’s enthusiasm for the project will ensure that the objective is finally attained, the health officer added, even though the proportion of children who have received vaccinations to date is just about 20% of the target.

National and local governments are actively promoting the vaccination program to prevent an epidemic of the three extremely prevalent diseases among youngsters.

The Chikiting Ligtas 2023 initiative was introduced in April by the DOH and its development partners, the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Several PHOs are currently administering vaccinations to rural areas.
