Region 4, commonly known as Calabarzon, has established emergency plans for Super Typhoon Mawar in the provinces of Batangas and Quezon.

It is anticipated that “Mawar,” also known as “Betty,” will arrive in the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on either Friday night or Saturday early.

Even though Super Typhoon Mawar is not anticipated to directly reach the province, the Batangas provincial government said on Friday that preparations for the worst-case scenario are already in motion.

The head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Dr. Amor Banuelos-Calayan, stated in an interview that her office is now assessing the province’s extremely sensitive and moderately risky sites.

“Landslides and flooding are likely, according to our predictions. Because of this, she said our operations center is active, and we are on high alert.

The official emphasized that the municipalities of Nasugbu, Lobo, and San Juan, and coastal communities like Lemery are constantly watched because they are the most vulnerable to flooding.

Banuelos-Calayan assured that the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will be prepared to help the coastal towns.

We conducted a meeting yesterday, as instructed by Governor (Hermilando) Mandanas, under the direction of our Provincial Administrator Wilfredo Racelis. We examined how the impending typhoon may affect the region’s agriculture, lands, and tourism, she continued.

The PDRRMO chairman added, “We have also coordinated with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office to be prepared for any injuries, stranded travelers, or tourists. We already have the food to provide for them and the means to transport them in our holding area.”

It was informed that the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (LDRRMOs) in every city and municipality in the province are in coordination with the PDRRMO’s operations.

The director of PDRRMO urged the populace to prepare for the storm’s approach sensibly rather than panic.

On the other hand, should Typhoon Mawar turn toward the province and create floods and landslides, the Quezon PDRRMO has guaranteed it is ready to evacuate citizens and other pertinent agencies.

However, according to the most recent weather predictions, the typhoon might not even land in Quezon, according to PDRRMO head Dr. Melchor Avenilla.

When the impending super typhoon Betty enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the official stated his office will continue distributing bulletins to inform the public of its condition.

Avenilla informed media professionals via text messages early on Friday that the storm was still 1,740 kilometers east of southeast Luzon and beyond the PAR at 4 a.m. on Friday (May 26).

The authority advised that the storm will hit PAR on Friday night or Saturday morning.

He said that everyone is still urged to be ready for this weather disturbance since it could amplify Habagat’s consequences.

Despite the gloomy weather, Avenilla cautioned Quezon residents to continue to be aware of the heat index, which may reach 41 degrees Celsius on Friday.

To prevent heat exhaustion and heat stroke, he continued, “All are advised to avoid physical exertion and seek shade from the sun.”
