On August 2, LRT-1 and two will adopt a fare increase.
Beginning August 2, rail lines LRT-1 and LRT-2 will adopt a fare rise, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Monday.
The LRT-1 and LRT-2’s services, facilities, and technological capabilities would all be enhanced by the fare increase, according to a statement from DOTr Assistant Secretary for Railways Jorjette Aquino.
“We at the Department of Transportation believe that this fare adjustment will contribute to maintaining affordable mass transportation services for the two commuter-train lines,” she continued.
As a result of the fare adjustment, according to Aquino, the LRTA plans to set aside around PHP110 million, or 97 percent of the anticipated PHP114 million increase in train earnings, for maintenance, operating costs, and the upkeep and repair of vital rail systems and infrastructure.
According to the train official, this will speed up equipment turnaround times and guarantee prompt preventative maintenance procedures for peak performance.
The LRT-1 and LRT-2 petitions to raise the boarding fee for trains by PHP2.29 and an additional 21 centavos for each kilometer traveled had already been accepted by the DOTr’s Rail Regulatory Unit.
With this, the minimum boarding fees for the LRT-1 and LRT-2 would be changed to PHP13.29 (formerly PHP11) and PHP1.21 per km (previously PHP1 per kilometer), respectively.
After a Cabinet meeting in Malacaang on June 6, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista authorized the implementation of the authorized fare adjustment, according to Aquino.
On June 13, Bautista met with Juan Alfonso, President and CEO of the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), and Hernando Cabrera, Administrator of the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), to discuss the decision to implement the agreed fare increase.
On June 19, 26, and July 3, the LRTA and LRMC will publish the authorized fare modifications in at least one publication with widespread distribution.
The collection date is August 2, which is 30 days from the latest publication date, according to Aquino.
From Baclaran in Paraaque City to Bago Bantay in Roosevelt (Quezon City), the LRT-1 travels; from Recto in Manila to Antipolo City in Rizal, the LRT-2.
