Agri aid of P2.1 million has been given to IP farmers in Bukidnon.

CITY OF CAGAYAN DE ORO – Andrew Lingcoran, a Bukidnon farmer, is the proud new owner of one of the 24 horses provided by the Department of Agriculture Region 10 (DA-10) to indigenous peoples (IP) groups as part of the “Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo (4K)” livelihood program.

On February 23 and 24, DA-10 distributed 12 carabaos, 16 units each of plows and harrows, 40,000 abaca seedlings, 20 rolls of tarpaulin covers, and 20 rolls of nets at Impasugong town, totaling PHP2.1 million.

“It’s our first time naming magkaroon ng kabayo kaya lubos ang aming pasasalamat sa DA sa paglaan ng atensyon sa tulad naming mga katutubo (It’s our first time name magkaroon ng kabayo so we’re extremely grateful to the DA for paying attention to the IP community),” Lingcor

“Alagaan ko ng maayos ang kabayong ito para balang araw ay mapakinabangan ang mga anak nito ng iba pang katutubong magsasaka dito sa amin,” he said.

In the villages of Bulonay and Hagpa, the IP group beneficiaries were the Grupo Hu Nagkasbuwa Hu Mga Mag-uuma sa Mahan-ao, Pigbuligaan Farmers Association, Mahagwa Buligay Farmers Association, and Kahugpungan Association.

Carlene Collado, DA-10’s executive director, said the agency’s 4K program supports Executive Order No. 70, which established the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).

“The DA is giving livelihood options to the IPs in order to improve their agricultural output and, as a result, their income,” he said in a statement released on Saturday.

The occasion was graced by Lt. Jameson Salubre of the Army’s 16th Infantry Battalion, who described it as a crucial tool in attaining peace and development.

“Through the combined efforts of the many national government agencies, locals from remote and strife-torn places have felt compassion and support.” “We’re hoping they’ll stay in the government’s good graces and assist us to accelerate Northern Mindanao’s development,” he stated in another statement.

April Grace Racines, DA-10’s 4K focal person, said the program strives to empower IPs by increasing knowledge and productivity through community organization, agricultural skills training, and workshops.

“The 4K is a three-year special initiative of DA that provides agricultural and fisheries-related economic prospects to indigenous cultural communities and IPs,” she explained.

DA-10 also approved PHP13.94 million in projects under the Special Area for Agricultural Development program, which will see free-range chickens, goats, and cattle multipliers distributed to 18 farmer’s associations in 16 towns across the provinces of Lanao del Norte, Bukidnon, and Misamis Occidental.

Local governments must supply sites for poultry or livestock multiplier farms in order to qualify for the project’s animal housing component.
