The Bacolod public transportation simulation drill includes 1.6K jeepneys.
A three-day simulation exercise (simex), which will continue through Tuesday, is involving some 1,600 conventional and contemporary passenger jeepneys and is intended to assess the viability of the Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) for the Public Utility Jeepney Modernisation Programme (PUVMP).
These comprise 555 contemporary jeepney units now operating on various routes and more than 1,000 traditional jeepneys with temporary operating permits.
Representatives from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and Land Transportation Office (LTO) are in the city to oversee the conduct of the research, according to City Administrator Pacifico Maghari III on Monday.
“This is the nation’s first SIMEX. We appreciate the DOTr, LTFRB, LTO, and all the participants for choosing the City of Bacolod to host this one. With a modernization program, this will now serve as the foundation for other simex across the nation, he continued.
A total of 1,099 contemporary jeepney units have been allocated under the PUVMP for the city’s 24 routes that have been identified under the LPTRP.
“Based on the available jeepney units, the objective is to determine whether the number of units is adequate for the updated routes. According to our status meeting, the main concern is figuring out whether the 1,099 units are enough to meet the demands of the riding public, said Maghari.
The mayor, Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, will get the recommendations within 30 days, and he and the municipal council are expected to discuss them.
Salvador Altura Jr., an attorney, and spokesperson for the LTFRB-Western Visayas, stated that their organization would analyze the findings and make recommendations along with the non-governmental organization SafeTravelPH.
He said that 72 surveyors had been sent out to estimate trip times using a mobile application in addition to staff from the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office.
On Monday, the city administration also requested input from the riding public through an online survey regarding the LPTRP’s present routes.
