🎙️📰 Antigen requirement waived for PBBM’s 2nd SONA! 😷🚫

The House of Representatives has announced that the Covid-19 antigen test requirement will be lifted for vaccinated guests and attendees during President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s second State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 24.

House Secretary General Reginald Velasco stated that with the relaxation of Covid-19 health protocols, more visitors are expected to attend this year’s SONA.

“For instance, the health protocols, we have been informed that they will be lifted. There will be no antigen requirements. Even the health declaration, we will forego that,” Velasco told reporters after the first inter-agency coordination meeting to discuss preparations for the second SONA.

However, Velasco clarified that guests will still need to present their Covid-19 vaccination cards, while booster shots are not mandatory.

Unvaccinated guests and those displaying Covid-19 symptoms will be required to present a negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test taken 48 hours prior to the event.

“We don’t want to risk the health of all the guests, and members of Congress, Office of the President, including the President himself,” Velasco explained.

In other updates, it was confirmed that Presidential Adviser for Creative Communications Paul Soriano will direct this year’s SONA. The coordination meeting focused on ensuring the comfort and seating arrangements for guests, as well as media coverage.

Velasco emphasized that the top priority is the security of the President, Vice President, high-ranking officials, and guests. Adequate emergency procedures and medical support, including ambulances and hospital beds nearby, were discussed during the meeting.

Describing the coordination meeting as “very successful,” Velasco noted the atmosphere of cooperation and joy among the officials involved. This proactive approach aims to keep everyone informed and prepared for SONA Day.

Representatives from key agencies, including the Senate, House of Representatives, Office of the President, and the Department of Foreign Affairs, attended the SONA coordination meeting. Regular invitees to the SONA, such as the diplomatic corps, were also included.

Further inter-agency coordination meetings will be held closer to the SONA date to ensure smooth proceedings. 🏛️🤝🎉
