The Bureau of the Treasury announced that the government is likely to proceed with its retail dollar bond sale within this quarter. Originally planned for last year, the issuance is now being marketed, and if market conditions are favorable, the target is set for September, as shared by National Treasurer Rosalia de Leon during Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno’s weekly press briefing.

The government aims to raise USD2 billion through this offering and specifically intends to engage overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) by providing them with an investment outlet. In line with this, the minimum denomination has been reduced from USD300 to USD200. Additionally, these retail dollar bonds are tax-exempt. The government has established platforms such as BondsPH and the Treasury App to facilitate investment.

In 2021, the government successfully raised USD1.59 billion through its onshore retail dollar bond offer. Building on this achievement, Finance Secretary Diokno expressed plans to promote the upcoming retail dollar bond sale during the Philippine Economic Briefing in Canada. He emphasized that the interest to invest in retail bonds extends to overseas Filipinos and Filipinos residing within the country. Individuals can convert their accounts to dollars and participate in the bond offering.
