MMDA opens the P300-M ‘intelligent’ command center.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) recently opened Communications and Command Center (CCC) in Pasig City will be used to oversee more than 400 high-definition closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, an “intelligent” traffic signalization system, and other systems.
The new PHP300 million facility was officially opened on Wednesday, according to MMDA Acting Chair Don Artes, who described it as the “nerve center of Metro Manila’s major thoroughfares.”
According to the organization, 403 CCTVs have been installed in “adaptive and sensor-based” traffic lights, bus bays, pumping stations, and other vital and large-scale infrastructure projects.
An “ergonomic console system,” a video wall that will be enlarged to accommodate flood control monitoring and video feed for body cameras worn by MMDA traffic enforcers, will be used to monitor these CCTVs.
“This is a major step for the MMDA to make Metro Manila a safe and smart metropolis by using smart technologies and data analytics to aid the country in its economic development and strengthened security,” Artes added.
The building also contains the Hytera Radio Smart Dispatch System, which has a built-in GPS and smart map to find traffic enforcers in real time and connect with other radio users in the field.
To connect the CCTVs of local government units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region (NCR) to those of the MMDA and to purchase an artificial intelligence program with vehicle classification, car counter, license plate, and facial recognition, according to Artes, plans are being made to construct a 45-kilometer fiber optic cable.
To facilitate the agency’s link with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the MMDA has also purchased portable ticketing devices that can issue and reprint traffic citation citations, request vehicle towing, and take online payments.
