The Department of Health (DOH) in Central Visayas is taking significant steps to promote health literacy at the household level by intensifying health promotion campaigns throughout the region.

On Thursday, DOH-7 hosted the Health Promotion Summit, which brought together healthcare professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders from various sectors committed to advancing health and well-being.

With the theme “Strengthening Health System through Unifying Health Promotion,” the summit served as a platform for sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas, and fostering collaborations to drive health promotion initiatives and strategies in Central Visayas, as emphasized by DOH-7 regional director Jaime Bernadas in his remarks.

Bernadas highlighted that Republic Act 11223, also known as the Universal Health Care Act, has paved the way for comprehensive and progressive reforms to ensure access to affordable, quality, and readily available health services suitable to the needs of every Filipino.

Dr. Rosalind Vianzon, chief of DOH’s Healthy Workplace and Environment Division, underscored the seven priority areas of the DOH Health Promotion Strategic Framework: mental health, maternal health care, sexual and reproductive health, and violence and injury prevention for women and children.

One important aspect of the campaign, Vianzon emphasized, is the definition of the workplace, which encompasses healthcare facilities. It is crucial to ensure workers’ health, safety, and well-being in these environments.

“Hospitals and healthcare facilities are workplaces in themselves… When we talk about health, all qualities and standards should be present in hospitals to ensure the safety and wellness of everybody, including healthcare workers,” Vianzon explained.

During the summit, participants also gained insights into strategies for managing “infodemics” and delivering impactful health communication through a lecture by Rocel Ann Junio Balbutin, the World Health Organization-Philippines communications officer.

The Health Promotion Summit in Central Visayas provided a valuable platform for fostering collaboration and strengthening health literacy efforts, ultimately contributing to the well-being of communities and individuals. 🌍🩺
