NEDA Board Approves NAIA Rehab and Other Infrastructure Projects πŸ—οΈπŸš’

πŸ›«πŸš§ MANILA – The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board, chaired by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., greenlit the solicited proposal to rehabilitate and expand the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Project on Wednesday.

NEDA Secretary Arsenio Balisacan announced that the PHP170.6-billion Solicited NAIA PPP Project, under the Department of Transportation and the Manila International Airport Authority, was one of three projects approved during the meeting at MalacaΓ±an Palace.

The project addresses issues at NAIA, such as inadequate passenger terminal capacity and restricted aircraft movement. It aims to elevate NAIA to the standard of neighboring countries’ airports.

“It aims to increase the current annual airport capacity from 35 million to 62 million passengers. The NAIA PPP Project also aims to increase air traffic movement from 40 to 48 per hour,” Balisacan said. It would enhance the passenger experience and service quality, preventing long queues and waiting times.

NEDA expects to identify the winning bidder within the year, with the project set to commence as early as next year.

Aside from the NAIA rehabilitation, the NEDA Board also approved the PHP7.48 billion Samar Pacific Coastal Road 2 Project and the PHP12.75 billion unsolicited proposal for the upgrade, expansion, operation, and maintenance of the Laguindingan International Airport Project in Misamis Oriental.

The Samar Pacific Coastal Road 2 Project entails the construction of the Laoang 2 Bridge and Calomotan Bridge and the improvement of existing roads between Laoang Island and mainland Samar Island, spanning 15 km in total.

The unsolicited Laguindingan Airport PPP Project aims to integrate “green” and “connected” airport concepts into its design and operation, leveraging digital technologies to enhance the passenger experience.

The NEDA Board also approved requests for reasonable changes in scope, cost, design, and loan validity of four ongoing infrastructure projects.

Additionally, the NEDA Board confirmed the proposed adoption of a National Policy on Infrastructure Sector Master Plans, aiming to harmonize and rationalize infrastructure master plans across the government for coordination, synergy, responsiveness to emerging issues, and alignment with priority development strategies.

An executive order will be issued to strengthen the nationwide implementation of the policy.

These approved projects reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure, fostering economic growth, and improving the overall experience for citizens and visitors alike.
