DOT: The tourism sector in the Philippines will rebuild better
The Department of Tourism (DOT) is working to restore the local tourism sector so that it can be more resilient and preserve jobs and lives.
DOT Secretary Bernadette Puyat stated this objective may be met by “deepening the roots of community involvement, leveraging on the country’s assets” via activities from 2021 through the first half of 2022, in a statement to the media on September 27.
“This catastrophe has highlighted the potential for the Philippines’ tourist sector to rebuild better,” Puyat added, “changing its narrative toward resilient, inclusive, and sustainable development.”
She said that the DOT would continue to fight for tourism employees to be vaccinated, for health and safety regulations to be enforced, and for the creation of “tourism goods and circuits” to meet changing visitor tastes in the wake of the Covid-19 epidemic.
“We’re getting ready for inbound tourism to come back, making sure our locations are secure and our initiatives are long-term,” Puyat added.
The message was sent in honor of World Tourism Day, whose this year’s subject is “Tourism for Inclusive Growth.”
The topic, she added, promotes the DOT’s goal of a “better normal” and is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which include having decent employment and economic development.
“Tourism has the potential to transform and elevate lives, and we are dedicated to leaving no one behind as we work toward national economic recovery,” she added.
