NTF: PH administering Covid-19 boosters ‘relatively’ slowly.
Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the chief implementer of the National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19, stated the Philippines is “somewhat” delayed in delivering booster shots against the coronavirus illness 2019.
Galvez also mentioned that 2.5 million elderly persons have failed to obtain their main immunizations in his report to President Rodrigo Duterte during Tuesday night’s Talk to the People.
He did say, however, that the government has a large number of juveniles who have received primary doses, ranging in age from 12 to 18.
At least eight million children under the age of 18 have gotten their initial injections, with 5.7 million of them being totally protected against the disease, according to Galvez.
According to the latest NTF data, the Philippines has administered 110,089,619 doses of Covid-19 vaccinations across the country, with 57,254,482 doses administered as first doses, 50,627,196 doses administered as second doses, and 2,207,941 doses administered as booster shots.
“In terms of pagbo-booster, we’re still a little behind. Simultaneously, kailangan po natin hanapin at i-vaccinate ang 2.5 million unvaccinated seniors (We are still taking our time injecting booster doses.) Simultaneously, we must locate and vaccinate the 2.5 million unvaccinated seniors) “Galvez made a point.
He claimed the government is pressing for a more aggressive immunization program, citing reports that the highly transmissible Omicron Covid-19 form has already spread locally in the country.
He went on to say that the Prevent, Detect, Isolate, Treatment, and Reintegration (PDITR) plan needs to be strengthened.
“We need to put our focus now on the localized response by improving our barangay Covid response system, as well as educating our people on self-management and exercising their individual social responsibility of safeguarding themselves, their families, and their communities,” Galvez added.
The government is presently building a “sustainable mechanism to efficiently manage the day-to-day administration of vaccines provided,” according to the vaccine czar.
As of December 2021, the Philippines had received 210,633,110 Covid-19 vaccinations, both purchased and donated.
