In the face of the Omicron menace, mobilize manpower resources: NTF
Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the chief implementer of the National Task Force (NTF) against Covid-19, said there is a need to mobilize manpower resources due to the threat of the highly transmissible Omicron version of Covid-19 in the country.
Galvez said the government should develop a long-term strategic response to the current pandemic during President Rodrigo Duterte’s prerecorded Talk to the People, which aired on Wednesday.
According to him, the government should maintain larger Covid-19 bed capacities in hospitals as well as enough manpower.
“With the rise in Omicron cases, we need to mobilize our manpower resources with DOH emergency hiring and the mobilization of medical students, as well as medical auxiliaries from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the PNP (Philippine National Police), the PCG (Philippine Coast Guard), and the Bureau of Fire,” Galvez added.
Galvez stated that the NTF is working closely with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to mobilize military doctors and nurses to help supplement health services.
“In order to preserve our economic, health, and social risk regions, we also need to reassess the prioritization of clusters or centers of gravity,” he added.
With the rising number of Covid-19 cases, the vaccination czar underscored the significant cost implications.
“It has also been proved that targeting highly urbanized and densely inhabited areas is necessary in order to enhance coverage in some areas and further protect the gains made previously,” Galvez noted.
Galvez outlined the government’s main concerns and tasks for preventing a Covid-19 outbreak after the holidays.
He stated, “We need to discover and vaccinate the unvaccinated.”
Galvez further stressed the importance of delivering Covid-19 booster doses to about 20 million people who had already been completely vaccinated.
“We also need to expand our vaccine to children from five to eleven years old to ensure the opening of schools and the removal of all restrictions on minors,” he continued. “Finally, in order to efficiently manage our vaccine administration and avoid excessive wastage, we need to enhance demand.”
Galvez also reminded the LGUs that they must obtain a vaccination coverage of at least 70% to 100% by the end of the year.
“We need to revisit the facts that our people’s protection should be broadened and reinforced through booster administration,” he said.
Galvez advised that places with a population of 70% or more should increase their booster vaccinations.
