The DTI promises the business sector that there will be no more mass lockdowns.

There will be no additional hard lockdowns in the wake of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) outbreak, which has been exacerbated by the highly transmissible Omicron type.

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) said in a statement Friday that officials from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) informed them that the government would no longer impose major lockdowns.

Instead, limits will be placed on those who have not been vaccinated.

On Thursday, newly elected PCCI leaders paid DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez and other trade authorities a virtual courtesy call.

After his previous term as PCCI president ended in 2015, George Barcelon was re-elected.

Architect Felino Palafox, vice president; engineer Eunina Mangio, vice president; Perry Ferrer, vice president; Sergio Ortiz-Luis, director and treasurer; Samie Lim, director; Alfredo Yao, director; Alegria Sibal Limjoco, former president and chairperson; Dr. Alberto Fenix and Edgardo Lacson, past presidents; Sallie Lacson, area vice president for South Luzon; Tess Ngan Tian, area vice

Undersecretaries Ceferino Rodolfo, Rafaelita Aldaba, Blessy Lantayona, and Ireneo Vizmonte, as well as Assistant Secretary Allan Gepty, were also present during the meeting.

“We are relieved that the government is no longer imposing harsh lockdowns as a precaution against the rise in Omicron cases. Otherwise, if enterprises are closed, it will be impossible for our economy to revive,” Barcelon remarked.

He also reiterated the largest business group’s request to be included in the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases so that the sector’s challenges and recommendations can be effectively relayed.

During the meeting, Lopez stated that due to the high vaccination rate and the medical treatment currently accessible, some protocols for the vaccinated have been eased rather than a total lockdown being implemented.

He went on to say that the “no vax, no labas (going out)” regulation might be implemented across the country.

The IATF may also allow the use of home antigen testing to provide an additional layer of protection by allowing the asymptomatic to detect whether they are infected with the virus.
