Starting Tuesday, some offices of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) will be closed for the remainder of the week.

The agency stated in a warning that the offices’ operations will be temporarily halted until January 14 after some staff developed coronavirus illness 2019. (Covid-19).

“In the interest of public health and safety, as well as the growing number of employees who have tested positive for the Covid-19 virus, and to prevent the virus from spreading further,” it stated.

At the POEA’s main office in Mandaluyong City, these offices include the Sea-based Center, Landbased Center, Direct-Hire Assistance Division, Labor Market Development Branch, which includes the Office of the Deputy Administrator for Employment and Welfare, and the Office of the Director for Pre-employment Services Office (PSO).

“The temporary shutdown is being imposed in accordance with the Office of the President’s Memorandum Circular No. 94, Series of 2022,” the POEA said.

The agency informed the general public that the offices would reopen early next week.

“Clients who have prior appointments or plans on the abovementioned date will be accommodated when the POEA begins its services on January 17, 2022,” the statement continued.

President Rodrigo R. Duterte ordered the reduction of on-site workers in government offices in Memorandum Circular No. 94 last week, citing the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the country.
