In Paranaque, a Pakistani was apprehended and P30 million worth of bogus medicines were recovered.
In a recent operation in Paranaque City, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported the confiscation of PHP30 million worth of counterfeit medications.
The bureau said in a statement that during the January 5 operation, a suspect named Adel Rajput, a Pakistani was arrested in collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA), the Intelligence Service Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP), and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
Biogesic, Neozep, Bioflu, Immunpro, Ivermectin, Phenokinon F Injection, Medicol, Planax, Alaxan FR, MX3, and other counterfeit drugs were packed in cartons with Chinese characters.
They were discovered in two storage units located at 7434B and 7434C Highland St., Marcelo Green Village, and 27 Pearl St., Severina Subdivision, Km 18, Barangay Marcelo, Paranaque, respectively.
The suspect was taken to the Paranaque City Prosecutors’ Office for an inquest and will be charged with violating Sections 1401 (Unlawful Importation/Exportation), 1113 (Property Subject to Seizure and Forfeiture) paragraph (l) (5) in relation to Section 118 (Prohibited Importation and Exportation) paragraph (e) of the CMTA, and Republic Act No. 8293. (Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines and its Pertinent Rules and Regulations). The Bureau of Immigration will be attempting to revoke his visa.
The implementation of the Letter of Authority, as well as the Mission Order signed by Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero, was led by Alvin Enciso, Intelligence Officer II and Chief of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service at the Manila International Container Port (CIIS-MICP).
The drugs were counterfeit, according to a certification from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Unilab Pharmaceuticals, the makers of the market-leading paracetamol brand Biogesic.
The operation was launched after complaints of counterfeit commodities were received, according to Raniel Ramiro, Customs Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence Group.
“It’s not just stuff; it’s medicines as well.” We acted quickly since this could endanger people’s health. “They’re selling these to unwary people who have no other option except to acquire genuine drugs for themselves and their loved ones,” he explained.
The contraband was taken to the BOC’s premises right away, but the inspection and inventory are still proceeding.
BOC also seized phony pharmaceuticals worth PHP50 million from a warehouse in Pasig City on Nov. 24, 2021. These included Alaxan, Tuseran Forte, Propan, and Diatabs.
