Provincial governors in Northern Mindanao have urged their residents to stay cautious and take preventative measures ahead of the new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) alert levels, which will go into effect on Sunday, January 16.

Gov. Philip Tan of Misamis Occidental responded to questions on Facebook on Saturday, saying that visitors to the province and inhabitants entering enterprises should present their immunization cards, especially those among the qualifying population.

Tan suggested that in the absence of vaccination cards, an antigen test with a negative result could be used as a substitute.

“Bring your full vaccination card with you wherever you travel, or a negative antigen test if you don’t have one. This will be the standard criterion for entering (commercial) enterprises or traveling here (in the province). Always wear a facemask and have some alcohol on hand “he stated

Through Resolution No. 157-A, the Inter-Agency Task Force placed Misamis Occidental, as well as the provinces of Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental, on Alert Level 3 on January 14. Iligan and Cagayan de Oro, both chartered cities, were also assigned to this level.

The provinces of Lanao del Norte and Camiguin were placed on Alert Level 2 as a result of the same resolution.

Gov. Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo of Lanao del Norte raised concern about the low immunization rate in Nunungan town and urged citizens to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

Dimaporo noted that even though the confirmed Covid-19 cases in Nunungan are relatively few, residents still need to get vaccinated during the Greening Activity and Groundbreaking Ceremonies for Torogan and Multi-Purpose Building in the neighborhood of Nunungan Lake on Friday.

A vaccination card is now required while visiting government and private agencies, as well as malls and other establishments, according to her.

Dimaporo advised the town’s barangay captains to take the lead in pushing their residents to be vaccinated.

Camiguin Governor Jurdin Jesus Romualdo issued Executive Order No. 1, series of 2022, requiring returning residents or tourists traveling from the NCR or Luzon to arrive in the province within 72 hours of their swabs being collected.

Those arriving from Visayas or Mindanao, on the other hand, must arrive in the province within 48 hours of completing swab testing.

In the directive, Romualdo stated, “The acceptance of unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated returning citizens from locations under Alert Levels 3, 4, or 5 shall be suspended.”

Tourists are only allowed to visit the province if they are properly vaccinated.

A negative RT-PCR test result will not suffice as proof of vaccination for unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated tourists wishing to enter the province.

Meanwhile, upon arrival in the province, all returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs), regardless of immunization status or country of origin, must undergo facility-based quarantine.

On the seventh day, ROFs from green and yellow-list countries will have a Covid-19 fast antigen test, while those from red-list countries will undergo a Covid-19 RT-PCR test. Their quarantine will terminate once their negative test results are released.
