Governor Francisco Matugas of Surigao del Norte has tested positive for coronavirus illness in 2019. (Covid-19).

“Despite following meticulous health measures, I am alerting the people of Surigao del Norte that I tested positive for Covid-19),” Matugas stated on Sunday afternoon on his Facebook page.

Following the onslaught of Typhoon Odette on December 16, last year, the governor has been active in relief work in many municipalities throughout the province.

Matugas said he will be isolated for seven to ten days, as recommended by his doctor.

His wife, former governor Sol Matugas, would likewise be isolated for the same amount of time, he said.

He is “asymptomatic,” according to the governor.

“I’m also requesting that anyone who came into close touch with me keep track of their health and be guided on the best steps to take,” Matugas stated.

He also requested prayers from the people of Surigao del Norte and urged them to remain together in their efforts to combat the pandemic and recover from the devastation caused by the recent typhoon.

Matugas recommended residents in the province to get vaccinated to protect themselves from Covid-19.
