The goal of the vaccine policy in F2F classes is to protect, not to discriminate.
The necessity of coronavirus vaccination for teaching and non-teaching professionals who will participate in limited face-to-face classes, according to the Department of Education (DepEd), is to prevent the virus from spreading, not to discriminate.
The Department of Education said in a statement that the policy is aimed at avoiding the spread of Covid-19 in schools and DepEd offices for the safety of students, clients, and workers.
“The aforementioned policy does not and is not meant to discriminate unjustly against any DepEd employee who decides not to be vaccinated,” the statement read.
It went on to say that an unvaccinated worker is treated properly since “he or she is obligated to perform work and receive compensation based on appropriate alternative employment arrangements, and his or her work is not terminated just because he or she is unvaccinated.”
The approach complies with the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) resolutions as well as Civil Service Commission norms and regulations.
Employees operating onsite in locations with sufficient vaccine supply as assessed by the National Vaccines Operation Center must be vaccinated or have a negative RT-PCR or antigen test result (if RT-PCR capacity is insufficient) according to IATF Resolution Nos. 148B and 149, series of 2021.
“In carrying out its responsibility to assure access to, promote equity in, and improve the quality of basic education, prioritizes the learners’ best interests as well as the welfare of its staff,” the statement stated.
Earlier this year, the Department of Education announced that in 2021, around 93 percent of its teaching and non-teaching workers had been vaccinated against Covid-19.
