Booster vaccines for 2°C-8°C are available at pharmacies: Galvez

Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the chief implementer of the National Task Force (NTF) against Covid-19, said Thursday that the seven pharmaceutical stores that were primarily tapped to roll out the government’s “Resbakuna sa Botika” program will more likely receive Covid-19 vaccines that require +2°C to +8°C temperature.

Galvez noted that those aged 18 and up can get booster shots at Watsons, Mercury Drug, The Generics Pharmacy, Generika, South Star Drug, QualiMed, and Healthway locations in Metro Manila.

“Ang ating protocol is initially yung 2 to 8 muna ang ating ilalabas sa mga (Our protocol is initially to provide vaccines that require two to eight temperature for) pharmacies so that we don’t have any complications for negative 20 and negative 80 jabs,” Galvez said on the sidelines after a ceremonial vaccination in Watsons SM Supercenter branch in Pasig City.

Galvez stated that the “Resbakuna sa Botika” intends to expand the Covid-19 vaccine program, which will be tested for a week before being rolled out to additional medicine stores around the country.

Those on the margins of society are strongly pushed to acquire booster shots at drug stores after registering.

Meanwhile, Galvez stated that senior folks and those with comorbidities are encouraged to visit regular immunization clinics so that any medical concerns that arise after the vaccines are administered can be addressed immediately.

Health Undersecretary and National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) Chair Myrna Cabotaje stated Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines will be supplied to pharmacies for the experimental deployment of booster shots during a televised Laging Handa public briefing.

“Kasi dapat maging gamay ng ating mga pharmacies, iyong magbabakuna iyong mga bakuna (Kasi dapat maging gamay ng ating mga pharmacies, iyong magbabakuna iyong mga bakuna),” she remarked.

After Phase 1, the participating drug stores will be provided with more brands, according to Cabotaje.

“Kasi iyong Pfizer at saka iyong Moderna, kaunting sensitive handling,” says the narrator. So, ini-start natin para maging gamay sila ay Sinovac at AstraZeneca sa ating mga botika (Pfizer and Moderna handling is delicate. So, in pharmacies, we’re starting with Sinovac and AstraZeneca),” she explained.

The NVOC will analyze and decide whether or not to broaden the deployment in the National Capital Region, she said (NCR).

“After NCR-wide, siguro by the second or third week of February, puwede nating umpisahan sa iba’t ibang panig ng ating bansa (maybe by the second or third week of February, we may start in different regions of the country),” Cabotaje stated.

Meanwhile, Galvez expressed gratitude to the government’s partner drug stores for assisting the country in expanding “access to life-saving immunizations.”

This initiative, he continued, will be a significant addition to the vaccination program of local government units in light of the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.

Mercury Drug in Malate, Manila; Southstar Drug in Marikina; Watsons in SM Supercenter Pasig; Generika Drugstore in Signal 1, Taguig; The Generics Pharmacy in Edison St. Sun Valley, Paranaque; QualiMed Clinic in McKinley Road, Makati; and Healthway in Manila are among the participating pharmaceutical branches.

“We are extremely sure that the launch of booster shots in pharmacies here in the National Capital Region will be a success,” Galvez added.

In total, 121,493,405 doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been delivered in the Philippines, with 56,444,406 Filipinos fully immunized and 5,613,125 eligible persons receiving booster shots or additional doses.
