Joey Concepcion, the President’s Adviser for Entrepreneurship, is pressing for a return to the three-day quarantine protocol for fully vaccinated visitors entering the nation.

This strategy for international visitors, according to Concepcion, was in place late last year but was only put on hold because of the Omicron variant concern.

“We should go back to the three-day quarantine for fully vaccinated people that was approved and executed before Omicron,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

For overseas arrivals, at least five days of facility-based quarantine is necessary, in addition to negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test findings 48 hours before departure.

On the fifth day, they must undergo required RT-PCR testing, the results of which will determine whether they must remain in the institution or be allowed to continue monitoring for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) symptoms at home.

Passengers with Covid-19 over the previous 60 days should be exempt from quarantine and should show an RT-PCR test result when they are infected, according to Concepcion.

“We all know that the virus’s remains can still cause false positives,” he continued.

“Quarantines are aimed to catch the introduction of variations of concern that have already managed to enter the country regardless,” explained OCTA research fellow Dr. Michael Tee.

“At the moment, we don’t notice any varieties of concern,” Tee added.

Fr. Nicanor Austriaco, another OCTA research fellow, backed the relaxation of protocols for overseas visitors.

According to Austriaco, the Philippines may adopt Thailand’s “test-and-go” method, in which new passengers spend only one night in a quarantined hotel while awaiting the results of their Covid-19 test.
