More PAL flights and lower pricing are sought by the governor of Ilocos Norte.
Because the province of Ilocos Norte offers “new normal” tourist attractions, Philippine Airlines (PAL), the country’s flag airline, is planning to increase the number of flights between Manila and Laoag in February.
PAL has announced that its flight schedule for February will be twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Governor Matthew Joseph Manotoc said in a virtual press conference on Thursday that the PAL management is planning to add another flight to make it thrice weekly to accommodate more visitors, especially balikbayans from the United States, notably from Hawaii, who are returning to Ilocos.
“I, too, appealed to management to see if the ticket could be reduced,” he stated.
Prior to the epidemic, the average one-way flight was PHP3,000. Now, the basic cost is PHP4,995.
To encourage domestic and foreign tourists, Ilocos Norte has lately established several “new normal” attractions such as the Paoay Lake waterpark, new bike routes and trails in several towns and cities, and birdwatching spots in Paoay and Pagudpud.
However, before booking a ticket to Laoag, air travellers should examine all travel regulations and safety measures to avoid any trouble upon arrival, according to the Ilocos Norte Tourism Office.
Unvaccinated tourists will be denied entry unless they can show a fully signed medical certificate with the doctor’s name and contact information stating that their medical condition prohibits them from receiving full immunization against the coronavirus sickness in 2019. (Covid-19).
Upon arrival, all flight passengers must also produce a negative RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) test or a negative antigen test result from the previous 60 hours or 24 hours.
Philippine Airlines has been the only airline serving Laoag-bound passengers since 2017.
Flights were halted in April 2020 due to the pandemic and resumed in July, but on a sporadic basis.
Last November, a more regular one-week flight was launched.
