Under the Department of Health’s coronavirus disease, 2019 (Covid-19) pediatric immunization effort for children aged 5 to 11, 735,631 minors in Eastern Visayas are expected to receive vaccinations.

In a press conference on Wednesday, DOH Eastern Visayas regional information officer Jelyn Lopez-Malibago said the region will begin immunizing the youthful population on February 14 in six provinces and two major cities.

“Capacity building for healthcare workers and implementers is underway, as are pre-registration marketing activities. Malibago informed reporters that vaccination locations will be expanded to accommodate more minors.

“We are doing everything we can to complete this pediatric immunization.” We reassure parents that these vaccines have been thoroughly researched by professionals and have been shown to be efficacious in a variety of countries. “There were no deaths among youngsters as a result of the Covid-19 immunization,” Malibago stated.

“Only 2.4 percent of the world’s vaccinated children have experienced modest side effects.” “The benefits of protecting against Covid-19 and ensuring a safe return to the school exceed the risks,” she noted.

As of February 7, at least 47 percent of the region’s 4.86 million people have received full Covid-19 vaccinations.

High vaccination coverage has been blamed for the drop in new confirmed cases in Eastern Visayas after a four-week increase.

From a high of 879 new cases on January 20, the number fell to 21 on February 7, the lowest since the DOH began tracking the new cases increase on January 8.

As of February 9, there were 61,371 confirmed Covid-19 cases in the region, with 59,914 recoveries and 654 fatalities. This takes the overall number of active cases to 803, or 1.31 percent of the total number of cases.
