In order to resume F2F classes, parents’ approval is also essential.
CITY OF ILOILO โ Before restarting or beginning face-to-face sessions, schools must obtain permission from the local government unit, the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), and parents.
In an interview on Wednesday, Hernani Escullar Jr., communication officer for the Department of Education Western Visayas (DepEd VI), said that the cooperation of these sectors is essential to determine “whether they are still willing to push through to avoid possible repercussions.”
Schools in Western Visayas’ Alert Level 2 locations are planned to join the pilot and expand face-to-face classes.
Once they have obtained approval, they should notify the regional office of their plans to begin or restart classes, according to Escullar.
Twenty schools in the region, 18 public and two private, took part in the pilot face-to-face sessions, but since the region was placed on Alert Level 3 on Jan. 16, they have reverted to modular and blended learning.
Negros Occidental has seven schools, Antique has four, Aklan and Iloilo provinces each have three, while Bacolod City, Guimaras, and Capiz each have one.
Furthermore, 80 schools are on standby and ready to join the extended face-to-face lessons once the region’s Covid-19 alert level classification is de-escalated.
They are made up of 60 schools from Negros Occidental’s several division offices, nine from Antique, four from Aklan, five from Iloilo province, and one each from Guimaras and Capiz.
On Feb. 14, the national IATF adopted Resolution No. 161-A, which keeps Iloilo City and Province, as well as Guimaras, on Alert Level 3, while de-escalating the rest of the provinces and heavily populated cities of Western Visayas to Alert Level 2.
Meanwhile, in a ceremony last week, the regional office recognized 20 elementary and 19 secondary schools as the best Brigada Eskwela implementers from June 1 to September 1 last year, while 70 schools received special awards such as best school community home partnership, best home learning spaces, best partnership engagement activity, best Brigade Eskwela collaboration in school districts, and most prepared school.
Brigada Eskwela is a DepEd-led annual activity in which everyone in the school community, including the private sector, collaborates to prepare schools for the start of courses.
“Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Department of Education commended the efforts of the 20 school divisions in responding to our appeal to prepare for the school year 2021-2022. Our schools were safer and more prepared for the start of courses as a result of the relationship,” Escullar noted.
Because of the limited face-to-face lessons, he stated that next school year’s Brigada Eskwela may be more difficult, but they are hoping for a smooth start with the help of their partners.
He also stated that they are still awaiting recommendations from the Central Office in order to add more schools to the enlarged phase.
