BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – In the last two days, the municipal government has issued more than PHP12 million in additional financial aid to residents affected by Typhoon Odette.

According to the local Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD), 3,287 people from 51 barangays got monetary assistance as of Thursday.

Agnes Labonete, 76, of Barangay Tangub, said she will use the money to buy construction supplies for her house, which was damaged by the storm in December.

“I appreciate the assistance from the city,” she continued.

Each beneficiary receives PHP5,000 or PHP2,000 depending on the DSSD assessment.

On Wednesday, 1,089 households received more than PHP4 million in financial aid, while 2,198 households received more than PHP8 million on Tuesday.

The local government also gave more than PHP28 million in monetary help to typhoon victims in the first week of February.

The payoff went to 1,647 beneficiaries from 18 villages, who received more than PHP6 million, and 873 recipients from 22 barangays, who earned more than PHP3 million.

A total of PHP4 million was given to 1,049 people from ten villages; PHP10.4 million was given to 2,082 people, and about PHP5 million was given to 987 people.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia previously stated that the city’s crisis response personnel were able to evacuate almost 5,000 Bacolodnons before the typhoon arrived, saving many lives and avoiding casualties.
