MANILA, Philippines — Philippine food companies at the Gulfood 2022 expo in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, finished the four-day event with first sales of USD23.6 million, or PHP1.2 billion.

The value is projected to rise, according to the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), because local food manufacturers participated in business-to-business matching activities at Gulfood 2022.

This is the country’s 17th participation in the Gulfood and its largest delegation yet, according to CITEM.

The delegation consisted of 48 Filipino food companies, with nine of them having a physical presence during the four-day expo and 39 showcasing their products online.

“Because of its diversified agricultural landscapes and rich gastronomy, the Philippines is a wonderful sourcing site for food items.” The demand for healthy and halal-certified food products is considerable, especially in light of the pandemic, and the country is set to be a pioneer in this field,” CITEM executive director Pauline Suaco-Juan said.

Gulfood is one of the world’s largest food and hospitality trade shows, with the majority of attendees coming from companies looking to expand their presence in the Middle East and Africa.

“Our participation in Gulfood does not mark the end of our efforts to promote Philippine cuisine in the UAE and other countries. “Through IFEXConnect.com, our B2B (business-to-business) network for food exporters, and FOODPhilippines.com, our leads generation and promotion platform for Filipino food, we are always promoting our export products 24/7, anytime, everywhere,” she said.

According to Suaco-Juan, these platforms allowed Filipino businesses to expand their global reach and participation.

“Buyers and food enthusiasts interested in learning more about Philippine cuisine are encouraged to visit our platforms,” she added.
