DUMAGUETE CITY — Negros Oriental’s provincial administration has vaccinated more than half of its whole target population against coronavirus sickness this year (Covid-19).

In a virtual press conference on Thursday, Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion announced that as of February 24, the province had a total of 526,554 fully-vaccinated individuals, including those who received the one-shot Janssen vaccine.

This reflects 53.1 percent of the province’s total immunization target of 990,637 people.

The initial dose was given to 539,850 people.

Meanwhile, the province’s “Resbakuna Kids” initiative drew 2,212 youngsters aged 5 to 11 from across the province, according to Estacion.

She stated that no negative effects have been recorded in this age range thus far.

Parents should respect their children’s decisions if they want to receive the Covid-19 vaccine, according to Estacion.

In Negros Oriental, pediatric vaccinations began on February 18 in all local government units and at the provincial mega immunization site at the Macias Sports Center.

Meanwhile, officials from the Department of Health in Region 7 (DOH-7) paid a visit to Negros Oriental on Wednesday to check the provincial government’s vaccination program and infrastructure, including vaccine storage.

“The DOH-7 praised us on our vaccination rollout because we were cooperative and followed the national government’s standards for inoculating our residents against Covid-19,” she said.

Estacion reaffirmed her urge for people to get vaccinated, claiming that the province had plenty of vaccines accessible.

As of February 23, the province had received 1,104,216 vaccines from various manufacturers, some of which were sent directly to local government units.
