In Quiapo, vaccination cards are no longer required on Ash Wednesday.

MANILA โ€” On March 2, Ash Wednesday, the faithful will no longer be required to submit their immunization cards before entering the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene, also known as Quiapo Church.

Mass-goers are still expected to wear face masks and adhere to rigorous health regulations, according to Parochial Vicar Fr. Douglas Badong.

“We’re not looking for a vaccination card anymore.” “Still no facemask, no entry, and observe social separation,” he texted on Tuesday.

The traditional marking of crosses on the foreheads has been approved for this year’s ceremony, which will mark the beginning of the Lenten season, according to the Catholic priest.

He also reminded the audience that anyone who does not adhere to the rules will not be permitted to enter the basilica.

Only 70% of the sitting capacity is permitted, according to Badong.

The Archdiocese of Manila, on the other hand, encouraged clergy and religious men and women to rigorously follow health procedures during Ash Wednesday celebrations, since they expect a larger crowd, especially now that the alert level in Metro Manila has been reduced.

“We expect a significant number of people to attend the imposition of ashes at church. In a circular issued by Vice-Chancellor Fr. Carmelo Arada, Jr., the Manila archdiocese said, “Let us ensure that there are adequate ministers and ashes, as well as compliance with health procedures.”

He invited believers to share their blessings by contributing to the FAST2FEED or Hapag-Asa project, which feeds the poor.

“The fruits of our Lenten penance might be offered as ‘gifts for the poor’ during the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper.” “We can also contribute to FAST2FEED or Hapag-Asa to feed the hungry and malnourished youngsters,” the Catholic priest stated.

Arada also informed everyone that tattooing crosses on the foreheads is now again permitted.

“We will resume the laying of ashes on the faithful’s foreheads. The option of sprinkling ashes on the crown will remain open,” Arada said.

Ash Wednesday will be observed by Roman Catholics all around the world to commemorate the start of Lent, a 40-day period that reminds believers of Jesus Christ’s sacrifices, death, and resurrection.
