The Comelec-Zambo establishes a monitoring panel.
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines β In preparation for the national and local elections on May 9, 2022, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has formed a committee in collaboration with other government organizations to monitor the campaign infractions and guidelines.
The Comelec campaign committee is made up of representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) β Zamboanga City Office, the City Health Office, the Philippine National Police, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, according to the first district election officer Stephen Roy Canete.
The DILG β Zamboanga City, according to Canete, has tasked barangay officials with monitoring campaign events like rallies, meetings, and motorcades.
“They (barangay authorities) will be the ones to report on how the campaign is doing in their area,” he explained.
According to him, compliance with health protocols would be monitored as part of the campaign’s monitoring.
Despite the fact that the city has been placed under Alert Level 1 since March 1, the public is urgently encouraged to maintain implementing minimal health standards such as wearing face masks, hand hygiene, and physical separation.
Meanwhile, Canete said that on March 25, they will resume Operation Baklas in collaboration with the local police department.
All oversized campaign materials, including those put outside Comelec-designated common poster locations, will be removed, according to Canete.
