The province of Iloilo is launching a vaccination campaign aimed at senior folks.
CITY OF ILOILO – The provincial administration of Iloilo will refocus its vaccination campaign to reach out to senior individuals or those in the A2 sector who have yet to obtain the coronavirus vaccine for 2019. (Covid-19).
In a press conference on Thursday, Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. noted that many older persons in the province are not inoculated, citing vaccine hesitancy and access as factors.
“We are aligned with the WHO (World Health Organization) and the Department of Health (Department of Health) in focussing and intensifying our vaccination for our A2 in Iloilo province.” We’ve made considerable progress. “We’ve hired as many vaccinators as we can utilizing provincial resources to boost the immunization capability of our localities,” he said.
According to data from the Regional Vaccination Operations Center (RVOC), 65.97 percent of the target seniors (154,198) have received their first dose 145, 278 (62.15 percent) have received their second dose as of Feb. 28, 2022.
He added the province administration has already taken initiatives to improve access, such as delivering vaccines to the barangays.
“We’ve progressed from immunization sites to vaccination in barangays,” remarked the governor.
He went on to say that on February 25, the province also inaugurated the EDSA People Power Resbakuna, using the occasion to rally support for the vaccination program, which had already reached the general public.
The elderly will be a highlight of the national vaccination day on March 10.
The provincial administration is currently working with the Department of Health and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to figure out how to persuade and gather more older people.
They will devise activities and provide rewards that will be described in the governor’s Executive Order (EO), which will be announced soon.
