Because the city is currently suffering a surge in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases, Mayor Sara Z. Duterte has encouraged Dabawenyos to be ‘particularly vigilant’ and to carefully obey the minimum public health standard (MPHS).

She also asked the Dabawenyos to wear face masks everywhere they go in a radio appearance on Monday.

“When you go out, make sure you keep your face masks on at all times.” “Do not be complacent even with your family members,” Duterte added.

The transmission across homes is obvious in the new cases, she said, adding that the majority were asymptomatic and moderate instances.

“We must always remind ourselves to keep our distance from other people,” the mayor stated. “We must also practice frequent handwashing with soap and water.”

She further said that one of the city’s doctors told her that the surge could go until the middle of March.

“Hopefully not, but it’s plausible if we’re talking about predictions.” “This is our second week of the surge, and we now have 6,899 active cases, with more on the way,” Duterte remarked.

During the recent increase of cases, this city had the highest Covid-19 positive rate of 48.34 percent.

From January 19 to 23, according to the Department of Health in Davao Region’s (DOH-11) Covid-19 regional daily case bulletin, Davao City recorded more than 1,000 daily new Covid-19 cases.

“The Prevent, Detect, Isolation, Treatment, and Reintegration (PDITR) strategy is still in place. “We’re still keeping an eye on [the] morgue for Covid-19 cadavers that need to be buried right away,” Duterte continued.
