Isko Moreno promises to keep the train and road construction in Bicol going.

MANILA โ€“ As the Aksyon Demokratiko moves into another president’s domain in an attempt to attract Bicolanos, its standard-bearer Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso pledged to keep train and road projects in the region going.

He noted that as the previous chairman of the North Luzon Railways Corporation (NorthRail), he is well aware of the role of transportation in the development of a place during his campaign sortie in Albay on Tuesday. Bicol is recognized as the opposition stronghold of Vice President Leni Robredo, Moreno’s fellow presidential candidate.

“One thing that nangyayari ngayon dito as a general program of governance is yung diversion road, minor yun sa buong Bicol.” This, Clark-Malolos, Malolos-Tutuban Tutuban-Calamba, Calamba-Bicol, yun matutuloy yun, may awa ang Diyos palarin ako (what is happening here is the diversion road, which is small throughout the entirety of Bicol). Second, I used to be the chairman of NorthRail, and this, Clark-Malolos, Malolos-Tutuban Tutuban-Calamba, Calamba-Bicol, I will continue if given the chance, God willing),” he stated.

President Rodrigo Duterte nominated Domagoso as chairman and CEO of North rail in July 2017, however, he resigned in October of the same year for personal reasons.

The first package of the PNR Bicol project would commence construction in the first quarter of 2022, according to Philippine National Railways (PNR) General Manager Junn Magno.

The package would include the first 380 kilometers of the PNR Bicol from Banlic, Calamba to Daraga, Albay.

Package 1’s construction is projected to be finished by 2024, with operations beginning in the third quarter of 2025.

Other PNR Bicol contract packages are expected to be completed between 2024 and 2026, with the whole PNR Bicol line due to open in 2027.

The PNR Bicol is a 560-kilometer rail system with 35 stations that will extend from Manila to Albay via Laguna, Quezon, and Camarines Sur, with a Sorsogon expansion and a Batangas branch line.

Domagoso expressed his thanks for the kind reception he and the rest of the Aksyon Demokratiko slate received, which includes vice presidential candidate Doc Willie Ong, as well as Senate candidates John Castricciones, Carl Balita, Jopet Sison, and Samira Gutoc.

Meanwhile, internet connectivity is another significant issue that Domagoso will address in the area.

“Napansin ko rin, me hika din ang internet dito, hinihika din, di ako maka-text masyado kagabi, so I think access to communication is very important sa buhay ng tao pang araw lalo na sa negosyo,” he added.

Transportation and communication, according to Domagoso, are two of the most critical concerns that the government must address in order to pave the path for future development.
