The DTI wants people to be able to test for Covid-19 on their own because there has been a big rise in the number of people getting it.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) wants to make Covid-19 self-test kits available at drugstores so that people can check their own bodies for the virus.
He told reporters in a text message that it was time to change the protocol and encourage people to use Covid-19 self-test kits so they don’t spread the disease.
Because if one is not feeling anything, or has no symptoms, one would not have done an RT-PCR for that day anyway. But an antigen test can tell if someone is going to be sick that day, and that can be a good way to avoid getting sick. This should become the norm, he said.
Last December, he told the Technical Working Group of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases that this recommendation had been sent to them on December 31.
As far back as October of last year, the DTI has been pushing for this recommendation.
In this case, this is better than not having a test at all. In Lopez’s words: “It is another layer of defense.”
He said that people should be able to buy antigen self-test kits from drugstores so that they can check themselves for Covid-19 at home. This way, people can do it on their own.
Lopez said that the RT-PCR test should still be done for people who are sick.
“With these more and more cases of Omicron, it is important to have another layer of protection,” Lopez said. “Again, this is on top of the required vaccination, and RT-PCR is still required for people who aren’t sick.”
As soon as possible, the city government of Baguio will start testing Covid-19 test kits that people can buy at home. This will speed up the detection and management of Covid-19 cases in the city.
For example, in the U.S. and Canada, rapid tests for Covid-19 screening are used a lot. These kits are also used in Europe, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
There were a lot more Covid-19 cases in the Philippines after people gathered for Christmas and New Year’s. This made the country once again a “high risk” country for Covid-19.
Other than the holidays, the more spreadable Omicron variant was found on December 15, 2013.
On Tuesday, the Department of Health said that 5,434 new cases of Covid-19 had been found.
