Historical videos must be shown to students in Bataan.
BALANGA CITY. The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) has passed an ordinance requiring public and private educational institutions to exhibit documentaries and use media about the province’s history, culture, and heritage.
On Monday, Vice Governor Ma. Cristina Garcia revealed that the ordinance signed by Governor Albert Garcia last Friday included the creation of a special technical committee for the purpose.
The law was written and proposed by board member Jomar Gaza, according to Garcia, the SP presiding officer, and was unanimously accepted by the body.
The resolution referred to the province’s long history, which included major roles in Philippine history, particularly during World War II.
Markers and monuments exist across the province, serving as reminders of the horrors of war and the valor of Filipino soldiers both before and after Bataan fell into Japanese hands on April 9, 1942.
Bataan, as a bulwark of democracy and a symbol of defiance against foreign encroachment, has played a significant part in defining the country’s history, according to the vice governor.
“With Philippine history no longer being taught as a separate subject in high school, there is a stronger and more pressing need to ensure that Bataan’s rich past is remembered and passed on to future generations,” she said.
The resolution reaffirmed the provincial government’s goal of nurturing and instilling patriotism and nationalism among the province’s young through the preservation, enrichment, and promotion of the province’s historical and cultural legacy.
Documentaries, videos, and other information on the province’s history, culture, and heritage must be required to be shown, exhibited, or presented in all educational institutions, whether public or private, as directed by the special technical committee to be formed.
Documentaries, videos, and other information about Bataan’s history, culture, and heritage, as produced and provided or as previously approved by the special technical committee, are among the approved items.
Every year, funding for the ordinance’s execution will be supplied. Any infringement of the ordinance was also subject to a punishment clause.
