ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., a UniTeam presidential candidate, urged supporters here and all Filipinos to unify and “make the country great again.”

“I see no reason why Filipinos cannot be unified if I, from Ilocos Norte, and Inday Sara, from Mindanao, can be together in one party,” Marcos told UniTeam supporters during his visit here Tuesday.

He claimed that if Filipinos unify, the country’s problems may be readily solved.

Marcos was likewise overjoyed with the “warm welcome” they received when they arrived in this southern port city at about 9 a.m.

As his caravan went from the Zamboanga International Airport to the Universidad de Zamboanga (UZ) Summit Center in Barangay Tetuan, he was pleased to see local UniTeam supporters lined up along the side of the road, despite the blistering heat of the sun.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, who is running for re-election, Congressman Rodante Marcoleta, and senatorial hopefuls Jose Pimentel Estrada Jr., also known as Jinggoy Estrada, and Juan Miguel Zubiri were among those who accompanied Marcos.

The UniTeam’s vice presidential candidate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, was unable to join the gathering owing to a scheduling conflict.

The twin UniTeam events here were initially slated for April but were relocated Tuesday owing to the upcoming month-long observance of Ramadan, according to Prof. Esnaen Catong of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP).

The UniTeam’s visit here is part of a four-day campaign swing across Mindanao that began on Sunday.
