Samar bets make an agreement for peaceful elections.

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines โ€“ On Tuesday, candidates in Samar province signed an integrity promise, pledging to hold secure, accurate, free, and fair elections this year.

At the Philippine Army’s 8th Infantry Division headquarters in Catbalogan City, Samar, key authorities witnessed the signing of a peace accord.

Local leaders specifically pledged not to use vote-buying, violence, misinformation, or cyber-attacks.

During rallies, they also promised to adhere to minimal public health standards.

National Security Adviser Secretary Hermogenes Esperon, AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Andres Centino, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos, and Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner George Erwin Garcia were all present at the ceremony.

“We are confident that the candidates will uphold the vow.” This is President Obama’s birthday greeting. “This is for all of you here in Eastern Visayas, not just for himself,” Esperon remarked.

Centino told Samar officials that the signing enables the AFP to carry out President Rodrigo Duterte’s command to ensure the upcoming elections.

“We have enough forces to secure free and fair elections.” “We’ll organize election-related troops and deploy them where they’re needed,” Centino explained.

Carlos praised Samar officials for adopting the challenge of adhering to stricter ethical standards.

“We appeal to the people, candidates, and other stakeholders to join us in ensuring a peaceful election on May 9.” During his speech, Carlos added, “We rely on you to achieve this.”

Garcia stated that the Comelec will do all possible to prevent election fraud.

“If the election is conducted in a fair and orderly manner, we can ensure that everyone has an equal chance of winning.” “We pledge to treat everyone fairly and equally,” he continued.

Governor Michael Tan (candidate for Second District representative), Second District Rep. Sharee Anne Tan (running for governor), 1st District Rep. Edgar Mary Sarmiento (reelectionist), former vice governor Stephen James Tan (candidate for First District representative), and Santa Margarita Mayor Gemma Zosa were among the key local government officials in attendance (running for governor).

A total of 30 candidates signed up, with 22 vying for ten seats on the provincial board, four vying for two Congressional seats, two for governor, and two for vice-governor.

Because of the history of violence in Samar province during election seasons, the national government pushed for the signing of the integrity promise.

This year, there are 597,290 registered voters in the province.
