PDEA reports that over 24K communities had been ‘drug-cleared’ as of February.
MANILA, Philippines โ Since the start of the Duterte administration’s assault on outlawed narcotics in mid-2016, more than 24,000 barangays across the country have been cleaned of illegal substances.
According to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s (PDEA) latest Real Numbers data released on Wednesday, a total of 24,379 out of 42,045 barangays (villages) have been declared drug-cleared, 6,606 barangays have been declared drug-unaffected/drug-free, and 11,060 have yet to be cleared of illegal drugs as of February 2022.
Following the issuing of certification by members of the barangay drug-clearing program oversight committee, these barangays have achieved drug-cleared status.
The agency stated that in anti-drug operations, the health and safety of its agents is a top priority.
Since the start of the Duterte administration’s war on illegal drugs in mid-2016, authorities have confiscated a total of PHP76.01 billion in narcotics across the country.
Shabu valued PHP63.46 is included in the total.
From July 2016 to February 2022, authorities seized 8,170.51 kilograms of shabu, 4,205.76 kilograms of marijuana, 22.56 kilograms of ecstasy, 534.20 kilograms of cocaine, and 3,483.04 kilograms of other dangerous drugs while dismantling a total of 1,057 drug dens and 18 clandestine shabu laboratories.
Since the anti-illegal drugs campaign began on July 1, 2016, a total of 14,648 high-value targets have been apprehended around the country.
6,482 HVTs were apprehended during high-impact operations, along with 4,018 target-listed suspects, 1,556 drug den keepers, 797 drug group leaders/members, 525 government employees, 398 elected officials, 353 foreigners, 291 people on wanted lists, 126 uniformed personnel, 78 armed group members, and 24 prominent figures.
During the same time period, authorities detained 331,694 people who were involved in illegal drug trafficking.
According to the combined statistics, 6,235 drug suspects perished during 229,868 anti-illegal drug operations as of February this year.
Authorities also arrested 4,230 children between July 2016 and February 2022. There are 2,532 pushers, 987 possessors, 445 users, 234 drug den visitors, nine drug den maintainers, 17 drug den employees, three cultivators, one clan lab employee, and two runners in this group.
The rescued kids would be turned over to local government units’ Bahay Pag-Asa centers within eight hours after being taken into custody by the police, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The DSWD stated that because they are juveniles, they will not be held in the same prison as severe criminals.
