Duterte wants to inspect the evacuation centers in Taal.
MANILA, Philippines โ After the Taal Volcano’s unrest raised Alert Level 3 on Tuesday, President Rodrigo R. Duterte announced he planned to personally visit evacuation shelters in Batangas.
He stated he intended to examine the evacuation facilities created by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to see whether he could provide extra support to evacuees in a prerecorded Talk to the People.
“Pag ‘yung sa iyo sa ‘yung sa DPWH na ano, Ed, pati ‘yung sa iyo sa ‘yung sa DPWH na ano.” Gusto kong tingnan sa I may be able to help rin, adding assistance to โ- sa inyo. But it’s your evacuation center, Ed, even if it’s one erected by the DPWH.) He addressed DHSUD Secretary Eduardo del Rosario, saying, “I want to inspect and I may have extra support for you).”
Duterte stated that he wants to spend his final months in power ensuring that monies were allocated to Filipinos’ needs.
“Whatever is left para sa kin (for me) that I can spend, ibuhos ko na lang (I will spend on) evacuation centers,” he continued.
Meanwhile, Duterte instructed his authorities to make sure that men and women had separate facilities in evacuation camps.
“We don’t have the luxury of providing everyone what they want,” he explained, “but I want the itong mga banyo ng babae pati lalaki to be entirely (women’s and men’s bathrooms to be completely separate)โ- and there must be a proper structure.”
The timetable for Duterte’s alleged visit to the Taal evacuation shelters has yet to be released by Malacaang.
On Thursday, Duterte is expected to attend a meeting in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, with members of the National Joint Task Force-Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.
He’ll also be holding a campaign event for his ruling party, the Partido Demokratiko PilipinoโLakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), which he chairs.
There are currently 19 evacuation camps housing 1,166 families totaling 4,039 people.
Outside of the evacuation camps, there are approximately 484 families or 1,886 people.
The overall number of affected families is estimated to be 1,823, or 6,568 people.
