Isko Moreno makes a case for the Philippines to revert to a two-party system.

MANILA – Presidential candidate Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso of Aksyon Demokratiko underlined the importance of the country moving to a two-party system for stable governance.

He also indicated on Sunday night during the second installment of the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) “PiliPinas Debates 2022” that he likes the election of two senators per area and supports the party-list system, but that it must have additional safeguards.

He bemoaned the exploitation of the party-list system to exploit the poor and perpetuate political dynasties.

“Napapanahon na, hinog na, na tayo’y bumalik sa two-party system, na tayo’y bumalik sa two-party system, na tayo’y bumalik sa two-party system, na The president is chosen by us. ‘pag nanalo ‘yung presidente, para walang away ‘yung presidente’t bise presidente, sabay silang mananalo (It is past time for the country to revert to a two-party system.) We elect the president, and if he or she wins, so does his or her vice president; they will both win, and there will be no controversy between them),” Domagoso explained.

He’ll also campaign for two senators per region, for a total of 34 senators, to ensure fair representation.

“Labing-pitong rehiyon, dalawang senador bawat rehiyon para may talagang representasyon sa kanilang rehiyon,” says the senator. At ang isang ordinaryong nanay o tatay na nagsikap, nakapag-produce ng mabuting bata at magaling doon sa kanilang rehiyon ay mabigyan ng pagkakataon ng representasyon sa Senado. And a regular mother or father who works hard to raise a good son or daughter will have a chance in the Senate),” he added.

He backed the retention of party-list participation, but said that measures should be in place to prevent abuse and manipulation.

According to the outgoing Manila mayor, party-list delegates should be elected by area to provide proper representation from under-represented sectors such as farmers, fisherfolk, the urban and rural poor, and indigenous peoples living in far-flung provinces.

“To malimitahan nang malimitahan ang Metro Manila, what they call the imperial Manila, it has to be regionalized.” ‘Yung mayayaman sa Metro Manila, nag-e-elect, gumagawa ng party-list, malimitahan nang malimitahan na ‘yung mayayaman na ‘yung mayayaman na ‘yung mayayaman na ‘yung mayayaman na ‘yung mayayaman So, makukuha natin ‘to, tingin ko, tingin ko, tingin ko, tingin ko, tingin ko, tingin ko, tingin ko, tingin ko, To prevent wealthy individuals in Metro Manila from forming a political party and becoming elected. He stated, “I believe we can do this via people’s initiative.”

“Are they truly representing the underserved?” “Are they truly conveying the law’s intent when it was written?” Domagoso inquired.
