MANILA – During election-related and religious celebrations that include large crowds and are high-risk events, Filipinos should take advantage of the free Covid-19 vaccination program, especially booster doses.

Dr. Ted Herbosa, a special medical consultant for the National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid, stated on Saturday that a spike in Covid-19 cases is expected in the next two months due to the campaign time, Ramadhan, and Holy Week for Catholics.

“We remind the public that although it’s Holy Week and some people aren’t working, you may get booster injections,” Herbosa said at the “Laging Handa” public briefing, adding that vaccination clinics are available even in the areas they’re touring.

The World Health Organization’s (WHO) official in the Philippines, Dr. Rajendra Yadav, has previously warned the Philippines about a probable increase in cases owing to crowded electoral gatherings and fading vaccine immunity, emphasizing the significance of booster injections.

The WHO warning, according to Herbosa, was based on an increase in adjacent nations such as Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand.

Since February, “lahat sila po ay tumaas ang mga case habang tayo ay mababa (All of them are increasing cases while we are declining instances),” he claimed.

According to Herbosa, the government is closely monitoring areas with poor vaccination rates, and local government units have been instructed to increase their efforts.

“It’s yung binabantayan kasi dito pwedeng ma-overwhelm ang ating health-care system at mapuno ng ma-ospital na (This is what we’re watching because our health-care system will be overburdened and our hospitals will be flooded with) vulnerable patients,” he continued.

Herbosa asserted that vaccine supplies are sufficient for inoculation of the pediatric and adult populations.

Out of the 66.2 million people who have already been properly vaccinated, 12.2 million have got booster doses.
