Public schools in Laoag In-person progressive classes are permitted.

CITY OF LAOAG – In the city’s ongoing development of in-person education, all of the city’s 39 public schools are now ready to welcome back their pupils.

Schools Division Superintendent Vilma D. Eda of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Laoag City said Wednesday that they just received approval from the DepEd Regional Office for the sixth and final batch of public school applicants for the implementation of the face-to-face learning modality on March 18.

“All of our schools are prepared,” Eda said in an interview, “and they have fully met with the norms of the School Safety Assessment Tool (SSAT).”

There are 5,096 learners, 393 teachers, and 76 non-teaching professionals enrolled in progressive in-person classes at the time. These figures reflect approximately 22%, 42%, and 30% of Laoag’s public school students, teachers, and non-teaching employees, respectively.

Before beginning in-person lessons, the DepEd requires that participating schools be validated by school authorities to ensure that they have met SSAT criteria.

Meanwhile, the Holy Spirit Academy of Laoag, one of the 26 private schools in the city, has begun limited in-person lessons, while the other 25 private schools are awaiting approval of the necessary documentation.

To present, the province of Ilocos Norte has remained on Alert Level 1 due to six new coronavirus illness cases reported between April 16 and 18, 2022.

The Department of Education suggested to President Rodrigo Duterte in February that limited face-to-face sessions be gradually expanded to allow only vaccinated teaching and non-teaching staff to attend.
