Roque wants to strengthen the law regarding free lunches for students.
SORSOGON CITY โ UniTeam senatorial candidate Harry Roque urged for additional free lunches for preschool and elementary school pupils as face-to-face classes are due to resume.
When our pupils return to school, they must be healthy),” Roque said in a statement on Tuesday.
“Mahalaga po ang kalusugan ng mga bata lalo na po sa panahon na mayroon pa rin pong banta ng Covid-19 (Kids’ health is vital, especially now that Covid-19 is still a threat),” he added.
President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act No. 11037, or the Masustansyang Pagkain para sa Batang Pilipino Act, in June 2018. Roque was the primary author.
A National Feeding Program for malnourished children in public childcare, kindergarten, and elementary schools is established under the law.
The government is required by law to provide a supplemental feeding program for daycare children, a school-based feeding program for public school children in kindergarten through Grade 6, a milk-feeding program, a micronutrient feeding program, health examinations, vaccinations, and deworming, as well as a milk-feeding program.
Because of the pandemic, Roque claimed that the Department of Education (DepEd) supplied nutritious food goods to houses or enabled parents to pick them up from schools.
We organized the free lunch. When face-to-face sessions were still unavailable, wholesome lunches with milk were given to the youth),” Roque explained.
He stated that healthy meals will be supplied to the students even if there is no pandemic.
