The first day of absentee voting was ‘trouble-free,’ according to a Comelec executive.

MANILA, Philippines β€” According to a Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesman, the first day of the three-day local absentee voting (LAV) went smoothly, with no reported malfunctions or adverse incidents thus far.

“Our anticipation is that it will be relatively quiet,” Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said in a press conference, “because the number of local absentee voters is not so large, only 84,000.”

“We’re also pleased that members of the press were able to vote here at our regional headquarters.” Since they will be voting by hand, they have their own ‘kodigo,'” he noted.

Only national posts such as president, vice president, senators, and party-list groups will be voted on by local absentee voters.

At the same time, Garcia expressed optimism that the same will occur during the national and local elections on May 9, 2022. (NLE).

“Hopefully, it will be the same on May 9th.” “Hopefully, our elections will be calm and quick, and everyone will be safeguarded against the coronavirus illness 2019 (Covid-19),” he continued.

Employees of the government in the military, police, health, and other departments who applied as LAV will be entitled to vote from April 27 to 29.

On Wednesday at the Comelec’s main office in Intramuros, Manila, Chairman Saidamen Pangarungan and Commissioner Aimee Neri, who applied as LAV, cast their ballots.

Neri is a registered voter in Cagayan de Oro, whereas the poll body head is a registered voter in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.

Those who applied for LAV but were unable to vote within the three-day voting session will not be eligible to vote on May 9th, according to Garcia.

Absentee voters in the area have until Friday to vote. Voting is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
